I began making this medically themed art in 2002. At that time my wife, Beth, was pregnant with our son. This meant regulars doctor visits. Beth also encouraged me to find a regular doctor and I began exploring the health quirks that I had been ignoring (and worrying about) for the past decade.

I don’t like seeing doctors. When I get nervous at an appointment, I distract myself by planning a painting or print about the people around me or whatever procedure I'm having done. I think about how I can use these images as metaphors for larger ideas. Certainly vulnerability is a theme that runs through all these pieces...
